F1® Delta Time: Development Update #5 - On the Road to Automation

As mentioned in our Discord channel yesterday, we would like to give a development update in order to share where we are with some of the most sought after features and improvements.

Claim System

The much anticipated claim system has been progressing well, with an internal demo and test having happened last week. We need to run some more tests before this is something we move to production, but we’ll be looking to release it to Ethereum first, rather than wait for it to go directly to Polygon instead.

Claim will require a gas payment on Ethereum, but redemption can be at the discretion of the player, as the amount to claim remains with the user until claimed. There is still integration into the website to be done for this, so it’s not going to be ready before the end of the month, and due to the sensitivity of what it connects to, we also need to ensure thorough testing.

With all this in mind, you can expect to be able to start claiming your own earnings and rewards in May - so no more waiting for the pay outs!

Polygon Move

We’re still working on the ERC-20 aspect for now - which means REVV and also Keys. We’re not progressing as fast as we’d originally wanted to, but progress isn’t due to encountering unforeseen issues. Just the process itself is very time consuming, and as mentioned before, it needs to be robust due to it being fund/value/earnings related to the move, especially any functionality related to REVV.

We’ve also making some changes to the contracts that will be deployed to Polygon, which will allow for meta-transactions using ‘pREVV’ (the Polygon version of REVV). Although the transaction fee on Polygon is incredibly low when compared to Ethereum, it still requires the Polygon token to cover transfer fees. And although we’ll be providing an amount of Polygon to get players started when they choose to bridge, we’ll ultimately support meta-transactions, meaning that ‘pREVV’ can be used to pay for the transaction costs (regardless of the size of the fee). This ultimately provides a much better user experience, and ease of access, which is the primary reason for using the side chain.

We’re unable to give a new timeline on this right now, but will share as the milestones become clear. In the meantime, we’ll always look for other solutions we can use to aid the gas/ETH issues (such as our Common Key opening reimbursement).

Event System

Next, let’s have a look at what to expect for the Event System, as this UI is being integrated at the moment. The backend to manage this has also been built now that it will be handling leaderboards in a different way. As the leaderboards will work differently (it being event based oppose to weekly), we’re also looking to add a search function to leaderboards, so players can search their user name and see which Leaderboards they’re placing on.

Considering that players will be able to participate in multiple events during the week, oppose to the one, it allows much more flexibility in playing. Once UI integration is complete, it’ll be a case of running thorough tests before going live. If we’re on track, then the new event system can go live before the end of the month, or early in May.

This doesn’t remove the larger events that we run now, but becomes the ‘standard’ way to participate in F1DT prize-based events. Before we release this system, we’ll likely have a gap between events, as we prepare for the update. Of these features, the event system will release first, followed by the claim system on Ethereum.

The first deployments for Polygon are expected within the next 3 weeks, but this will just be contracts, so no functionality will be provided by these deployments alone. Before Polygon can really be used by players, the 1155 contract (manages the game assets) will need to be deployed, as well as Keys, and any functions related to minting. Additionally we will be integrating all this into the UI, and making it clear as to which chain you’re on at that time (because we’ll allow play to occur on both Ethereum and Polygon).

You can also expect more tracks coming down the pipe, with Australia next, followed by Canada.

Any questions, give us a shout!
